The 10 Most Unfortunate Tattoo Misspellings

As we mentioned in our previous blog post, an average of 1 in 5 Britons now regret one or more of their tattoos. Some were a spur of the moment decision they wish they hadn’t made, some are something they simply want covering with something more artistic. A vast majority, however, feature some glaringly obvious and very unfortunate tattoo misspellings.

Whether it’s a misspelt foreign language like in the case of celebrity Hayden Panettiere, or the result of a bad tattooist, honest spelling mistake or unpolished grammar, it’s an embarrassing error that has many flocking to clinics for a course of laser tattoo removal.

While a misspelt tattoo is an unfortunate mistake, we can’t help but chuckle at some of the funnier tattoo misspellings that grace the internet. Here are ten of our favourites (and don’t worry, they can always be fixed!).

1. A love thicker then blood

‘Then’ rather than ‘Than’ seems to be one of the more common tattoo misspellings circulating the net. Perhaps it’s a case of writing down the chosen text too hurriedly rather than a genuine grammatical mistake. We hope so anyway!

2. Your next

It’s one thing confusing ‘Your’ and ‘You’re’ in a something like a Facebook update, but it’s quite another when the error is etched into your skin forever. At least this tattoo lover has a thumb spare!

3. I am a marshian

We’ve all had days where a word we’re used to spelling looks completely alien (or, as the case may be, marshian). Our advice is to double check every word against a dictionary just to be on the safe side!

4. Strenght

A brave and bold tattoo design can look stunning and unique but it can also backfire if you aren’t sure of the spelling of the text, or if spelling isn’t one of your tattooists “strenghts.”

5. No regerts

The most ironic of unfortunate tattoo misspellings is also one of the most common. We wonder if the tattooists involved just don’t notice this kind of mistake or are the ones making it in the first place…

6. Don’t forget to love yorself

This is a very true sentiment, but you shouldn’t forget to love and respect the tattooing process either, starting with the careful consideration it takes to get a design and its spelling correct. Rushing into a design is one of the main reasons why many people turn to laser tattoo removal.

7. Go whereever the wind takes you

Unfortunately, a relatively attractive script and accompanying illustration can’t detract from a tattoo misspelling.

8. For every dream there is a road that leads you do it

Tattoos that cover a bone must feel even more painful when a glaring spelling mistake is added to the mix! At least that letter ‘D’ could be easily rectified with a few sessions of PicoSure laser tattoo removal and a quick trip back to the tattooist.

9. Never don’t give up

We know this is more of a grammatical mistake than a spelling error but it’s too unfortunate to leave out of our top ten, especially when it completely reverses the intended meaning of the tattoo.

10. Altough blood pumping though my veins keeps me from dying, it is music that gives me life

We thought we’d finish with a great example of how to cover up not one, but two unfortunate tattoo misspellings. This clever individual took inspiration from their school days and corrected their own spelling mistakes by turning their tattoo into a piece of homework, complete with coffee stain. A* for creativity!
