Eyebrow Tattoo Removal: Can Eyebrow Tattoos be Removed by Laser?

There is an increasing demand for the removal of eyebrow tattoos. But can these be treated by laser, and what does the procedure involve? The short answer is yes, but with caution. Read on to find out more.

Do you regret your cosmetic tattoos?

If you do, you’re not alone. Many people choose to get cosmetic tattoos for their convenience, as they cut down on the amount of time and effort you have to spend on your make-up each day. They also ensure you never need to be caught by surprise without make-up on! However, they can be restrictive, as fashions can change quickly, and cosmetic tattoos make it virtually impossible to change your look.

This is particularly the case with eyebrows. They are one of the most popular cosmetic tattoos; however, brow shape trends are constantly changing, and many people find themselves stuck with brows they really want to change. As a result, they seek laser cosmetic tattoo removal.

Can cosmetic tattoos be removed by laser?

This depends entirely on the location of the tattoo. The most commonly seen cosmetic tattoos are:

  • Eyebrows – these can be treated by laser
  • Eyeliner – this should not be treated by laser unless you have ocular shields and a highly experienced practitioner
  • Lipliner – laser treatment is not recommended.

The ink used in facial tattoos is usually cosmetic ink, which is semi-permanent. While many people assume that this will be easier to remove than the ink used in body tattoos, this isn’t actually the case, and the results can vary.

The success of laser eyebrow tattoo removal all depends on the type of ink used in the tattoos. Older inks are generally harder to remove than newer ones. In addition, while some inks will fade after a couple of treatments, others will oxidise, which results in the ink turning a much darker colour instead of lighter – some will even turn black! When this occurs, the tattoo has to be treated as new, so it can take several more treatments in order for it to fade.

What types of laser are used for eyebrow tattoo removal?

There are two main types of laser which are commonly used for tattoo removal:

For most tattoos, treatment with a Picosecond laser is much faster than Nd YAG, but this is not always the case with facial tattoos – there is often little difference in treatment times between the two.

However, a Picosecond laser is gentler on the skin, which is obviously an important consideration for a facial tattoo.

What are the symptoms of eyebrow tattoo removal?

During treatment, you will experience the sensation of a hot “flick” on the area of the skin being treated.

Following this, there may be some mild stinging and the area may swell slightly – these symptoms can last for several hours after treatment.

Laser removal for eyebrow tattoos is a safe procedure, as long as you make sure you choose a highly experienced practitioner, who will consult with you before your treatment and answer any questions you may have. They will not only give you the best results, they will also crucially make sure that the treatment you receive is safe and appropriate.
