Melanie, a 28 year old mother of one, came to us wanting a tattoo removing from her upper arm with the PicoSure laser. Like a few of our clients, her tattoo was a youthful drunken mistake and one she’ll never repeat again!
In total, Melanie had just four treatments with the PicoSure laser and her amazing results can be seen in the photo below.

We recently caught up with Melanie to talk about her tattoo removal experience with us.
Let’s start at the beginning. What was the reason for getting your tattoo in the first place?
“The tattoo was a huge drunken mistake. At my 18th birthday party a friend came to show off his tattoo kit and being a little bit merry, I volunteered to be inked. I chose what I thought was something pretty and feminine, but it turned out to be nothing of that sort and more of a cross tribal rams head and a tribal bat that no one could tell what it was!”
What was the reason for wanting your tattoo removed?
“As you can imagine, up on waking up the next day I was horrified to see it on my arm, but none the less as a newly turned 18 year old ended up thinking it was fantastic. Over time the ink started to fade and the stupidity came rushing in 🙁 I just wanted it gone and even thought of cutting it off but I’m a bit of a whimp at heart.”
And when did you first start to think this?
“Around a year or 2 after having it done when the inks began to fade and started to look ridiculous.”
What attracted you to the PicoSure laser over other available removal treatments?
“I did a little research when I found out about what was on offer and it seemed that I would get maximum results with minimum treatments. With that I was totally sold to PicoSure.”
What worries (if any) did you have prior to the treatment?
“I was worried that I would end up with huge scars from being burned or the area becoming highly infected. I researched all the possible side effects of laser because I just wanted to be fully prepared for any repercussions if any were to arise.”
And how was your first treatment?
“I was extremely nervous for my first treatment, but the want for it to be removed so bad overcame that. At first it stung a little bit but it was definitely a tolerable pain and after a while my arm went numb. Also the clicking noise of the laser made me jump a little (told you I was a whimp!) and the smell but really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be at all.”
How comfortable did you find the laser treatment (the actual sensation from the laser) and what did it compare to?
“Call me sadistic but I found it quite relaxing after the initial pain goes away. You grit your teeth alot but pain is only a state of mind and everyone has a different level of pain tolerance. I would compare it to hot wax or spitting fat which hurt for a second then the pain goes away. It’s no more painful than actually having a tattoo done.”
Were you satisfied with the results and would you recommend the PicoSure laser treatment to your friends?
“Totally satisfied. I actually miss going to my appointments but after 4 treatments there really isn’t much to remove. I always recommend Andrea Catton Laser Clinic and the PicoSure laser to anyone and everyone who asks about my removal and to those who moan about their old tattoos.”
Any other thoughts, comments?
“I can’t thank Andrea and her clinic enough for the treatments. The after care of every treatment was amazing and Andrea was always on hand to take my calls if I didn’t think it was healing right. Everything went perfectly brilliant and I managed somehow to heal very fast and still to this day my tattoo is fading.”
