If you are interested in laser treatment to reduce your acne scars, we have some good news -back in July Cynosure, creators of PicoSure, received FDA 510(k) approval to market its FOCUS Lens Array Technology for the treatment of acne scars.

Clinical studies from PicoSure show a dramatic improvement in the appearance of acne scars in as little as three treatments with this technology. In fact, 77% of patients achieved greater than 50% improvements with acne scaring with PicoSure treatment.

“The clearance to treat acne scarring with PicoSure represents a significant milestone in our strategy to pursue expanded indications that demonstrate the breadth of this technology,” said Cynosure President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Davin. “PicoSure continues to be well received by physicians and consumers in the U.S. as well as internationally.  The treatment of acne scarring represents a large global market, and we believe that approval of PicoSure effectively positions us to capitalize on this opportunity. At the same time, we’ll continue to pursue new FDA marketing clearances for PicoSure in additional indications”

Why does FDA approval matter for treatments in the UK?

fda approved logo The FDA meticulously tests products to ensure that they are safe and fit for purpose. Not only that, but the FDA will only approve products that do what they claim to do. Although the FOCUS Lens Array’s FDA approval doesn’t mean anything in terms of legality in the UK, it’s reassuring to know that the product has been put through the strictest testing available for commercial products and that you, our patient, will only be treated with the latest state-of-the-art acne scar equipment that’s proven for its safety and performance.

What is the FOCUS Lens Array?

focus lens array The FOCUS Lens Array is a new product for the beauty industry that will revolutionise the treatment of pigmented lesions, frecklesacne scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and all-round skin revitalisation. It’s an additional product to be used alongside the state-of-the-art PicoSure workstation, which uses photomechanical technology to provide exceptional skin treatments. It’s the world’s first and only Picosecond aesthetic laser with pulses 100 times shorter than nanosecond technology.

How does the FOCUS Lens Array technology work?

The FOCUS Lens Array works by microscopically concentrating the PicoSure pulse to a precise depth. FOCUS Lens Array technology is considered safer than nanosecond technology because only 10% of the skin is treated at high fluence with a low fluence background, which greatly increases safety and dramatically reduces the number of treatments required. This level of precision was not available before, and for the patient it means treatment plans can be created which are ideal for those who want dramatic results in a short space of time.
